Stephen Rothe of Paul Rothe & Son, a Central London Cafe and Deli, contacted us about signwriting his delicatessen in Marylebone, which has been run by four generations of their family, as he was having his shopfront decorated. He wanted to keep the lettering as close to the original design as possible, which was first completed in 1914, however, as the decorator was just about to start decorating, Stephen hastily rushed out to take some photos of the signs for us to use for reference purposes before they were lost under the new paint!
We used these photographs together with accurate measurements of the areas to be signwritten to create scaled artwork for Stephen to approve prior to preparation of working drawings.
We arrived on site with our brushes and trusty scaffold, and set up for a full and busy day and once the layout on the fascias had been approved and colours selected, we set to work. Luckily for us the rain stayed away all day and the only thing we had to dodge was the customers – this is one very busy shop!!
Stephen and Dad, Paul, were really pleased with the job as were we.
