As part of a local regeneration programme, Butler dSigns were involved in the redecoration of the shop fronts and re-signage to a number of businesses in West Norwood, one of these being the Electric Cafe. Our brief was to restore an original 1930s sign at the Electric Cafe, that was believed to be hidden under their existing sign.
However, once works had commenced on site, it was found that due to the way the current shop front had been constructed, it would not be possible to restore the old 1930s sign – but that did not stop us. We took detailed tracings and photographs of the old sign, and once the new fascia board had been manufactured, we set about signwriting as per the old 1930s sign. Once completed the sign was “aged” and distressed and fitted on site.
Although we were a bit disappointed not to have restored the original sign and bring some heritage back to the building, we were very happy with the results – the new sign looks great and with the other works carried out there, the appearance of the Electric Cafe has been totally transformed.
